The Northern Railway has increased the maximum permissible speed of trains on the 17-km Banihal-Qazigund single-line electrified section from 75 kmph to 100 kmph, a move expected to reduce travel time and improve train operations in the Kashmir Valley.
According to the Jammu Division of Northern Railway, the enhanced speed limit will enable trains to cover the section faster, improving line capacity and allowing more time for maintenance activities. Officials said the change is also expected to enhance punctuality of trains operating towards Qazigund, Anantnag and Srinagar.

The railway administration said quicker clearance of the section would facilitate smoother movement of trains and improve operational efficiency while maintaining safety standards.

The Jammu Division said passengers are advised to follow safety instructions during travel and cooperate in protecting railway property.
