The newly developed Tawi Riverfront in Jammu came alive on Sunday morning as the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), in collaboration with Jammu Smart City, organised a ‘Walk & Wellness Meet’ at the Left Bank of the Suryaputri Tawi, transforming the area into a vibrant centre for health, recreation and community engagement.

Scores of residents from across the city participated in the event, reflecting the growing popularity of the riverfront as a shared public space.

Participants from diverse groups, including cycling clubs, yoga collectives, fitness enthusiasts and local citizens, took part in walking sessions, yoga activities and group workouts, lending the riverbank a festive and energetic atmosphere.

The riverfront also attracted artists sketching the landscape and readers enjoying the tranquil surroundings, underscoring its emerging role as a multi-purpose urban destination catering to wellness, creativity and leisure.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from several organisations and community groups, including Bhartiya Yog Sansthan, J&K Cycling Association, Book Club Jammu, J&K Music and Fine Arts, Skating Club Jammu, members of Amar Singh Club and local athletes.

Notable members from Amar Singh Club, including its Secretary Vijay Saraf, were also present and actively took part in the initiative.

Speaking on the occasion, JMC Commissioner and CEO, Jammu Smart City, Dr Devansh Yadav, IAS, said the event marked a significant milestone in reclaiming and productively utilising urban public spaces for citizens.

He noted that with Phase-I of the Tawi Riverfront project now complete, the area has evolved into a dynamic zone attracting joggers, cyclists, yoga practitioners, painters, book lovers and families during both morning and evening hours.

Dr.Yadav emphasised that the riverfront has been envisioned as an inclusive and accessible space for people of all ages and backgrounds, free from social or cultural barriers.

He added that extensive green cover development along the riverfront would be taken up after the winter season to further enhance its ecological and visual appeal.

Highlighting future plans, the CEO, Jammu Smart City, said a real estate proposal linked to the riverfront has been submitted to the government. The proposal aims to boost tourist footfall and encourage visitors to spend more time at the Tawi Riverfront before exploring other parts of Jammu, thereby strengthening the city’s tourism potential.

The event was successfully coordinated by the core organising team comprising Rajesh Abrol, Senior General Manager, Jammu Smart City Limited; Priyanka from Jammu Municipal Corporation; AEE Ravi Salgotra; AEE Akhil Samyal; and Sachin Sawhney, Junior Engineer, JSCL.
