Chairman of Team  Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal, has made a fervent appeal to all MLAs to set aside political differences and unanimously deliberate on the escalating drug menace. He demanded death penalty for those found guilty of smuggling and selling narcotics, which he claims are ruining the lives of the younger generation.

Addressing a press conference at Press Club here today, Team Jammu’s leadership, including Dr Ashish Gupta and Rajesh Kapoor, voiced serious concerns over increasing drug menace despite multiple initiatives taken by the J&K Police and allied agencies. Jamwal urged the administration to fulfill its commitment of dealing drug peddlers with iron hands.
With the upcoming Assembly Budget Session, a fierce debate is brewing over a proposed liquor ban, with several MLAs from the PDP and National Conference pushing for a statewide prohibition. Jamwal stated that Team Jammu would support a clear Government policy on liquor prohibition. However, he emphasized the need for a more pressing debate on drug abuse and urged the MLAs to pass a resolution including the death penalty for drug smugglers.
Expressing grave concern over the rising addiction among youth, Jamwal underscored the need for constant police surveillance at known drug hotspots and a comprehensive crackdown on drug networks. He criticized certain “black sheep” within the administration for taking the issue lightly and questioned why authorities have failed to dismantle entrenched drug mafias despite years of law enforcement efforts.
Team Jammu also highlighted the international dimension of the crisis, accusing Pakistan of fueling narco-terrorism in J&K. Jamwal urged the Government to take a firm stance against cross-border drug smuggling, warning that the rising drug-related violence is a direct fallout of this conspiracy. He called for intensified anti-narcotics operations and transparency in documenting drug-related deaths to break the supply chain and curb the drug menace effectively.
