Department of Sociology organised one day workshop on “Genderbased Cyber Violence:Emerging Threats and Legal Solutions.”
Under the abled guidance of Dr. Kulvinder Kour (Principal, PSPS GCW Gandhinagar),the Department of Sociology and NSS Unit-l incollaboration with Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu,organised one day workshop on the theme, “Gender based CyberViolence : Emerging Threats and Legal Solutions.”
Dr. Kulvinder Kourappreciated the efforts taken by Department of Sociology for organising such events on contemporary social issues.
The formal welcomeaddress was given by Dr. Suraj Mohani Jamwal, (HOD, Sociology and NSS PO Unit-l). She highlighted the importance of cyber securityawareness especially for female students in today’s digital world, whereeducation, social interaction and opportunities are increasingly online.
Prof. Savita Nayyar ( Prof.,Deptt. of law and Director, centre for women’s studies, JU) was the resource Person for today’s event. In herdetailed presentation on the major cyber crimes against females, shehighlighted the various methods of tracing cyber frauds and the ways toprotect them from cyber crimes.
Prof. Nayyar emphasised on variousmodern laws and provisions like E-FIR, SHE portal, ZERO FIR etc. Dr.Saranjit Kour (AP, CWS), elaborated on the functioning of Centre forWomen’s Studies,JU.
Around 70 students from Department ofSociology and 20 students from NSS Unit -l participated in the event.During interactive session, the students shared their personalexperiences and their cyber related queries.
Dr. Disha Sharma(CWS,JU) gave the formal vote of thanks. The whole event wascoordinated by Prof.Poonam Kesar and Dr.Shelly Sabharwal from the Department of Sociology. The proceedings of the event was hosted byMs.Saloni and Ms. Nancy (Sem. 4th).
