BSF personnel on Thursday apprehended a Pakistani intruder near the international border in Punjab's Pathankot district. After initial questioning, the individual was handed over to the Narot Jaimal Singh Police Station, the BSF Jammu unit confirmed.
This comes days a week after another Pakistani infiltrator was shot dead by BSF troops while attempting to cross into Indian territory in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district.
The incidents occur amid heightened vigilance along the border, following repeated crossborder provocations from Pakistan in the wake of India's major counterterror operation.
On May 7, the armed forces launched Operation Sindoor, targeting and destroying nine well-known terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
The operation was a direct response to the April 22 Pakistan-sponsored terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives. Among the targets hit were the Jaish-e-Mohammed headquarters in Bahawalpur and a Lashkar-e-Taiba base in Muridke, both deep inside Pakistani territory.
