Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was stabbed at least six times by an unidentified attacker, who entered his Mumbai home in a burglary attempt on Thursday. After the attack, Saif was admitted to Lilavati Hospital where he is undergoing surgery and was reportedly out of danger. Saif had two deep cuts, with one close to the actor's spinal cord, police said.
According to the police, the suspect entered Saif Ali Khan's Bandra home at around 3.30 am and both of them had a fight during which the actor was stabbed. Saif's wife Kareena Kapoor and sons Taimur and Jeh were present in the house at the time of the incident, sources said.
A probe was launched by the Mumbai Police to trace the accused and ensure his arrest.
"An unidentified person intruded into the residence of actor Saif Ali Khan. The actor and the intruder fought. The actor was injured and is being treated. An investigation is going on," the local area's Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dixit Gedam, said while speaking to the media on the issue.
A statement was also released from Saif Ali Khan's team where they requested the "media and fans to be patient".
"There was an attempted burglary at Mr Saif Ali Khans residence. He is currently in hospital undergoing surgery. We request the media and fans to be patient. It is a police matter. We will keep you updated on the situation," a statement by Saif Ali Khan's team read.
